Abstract

The author’s purpose of the story, There’s a Rougarou in the Bayou! is to give insight, to entertain, and to educate students about the Louisiana folklore legend, the Rougarou. It is important to preserve written Louisiana folklore to carry it on for future generations to enjoy. The story is a work of historical fiction that entails the legend of the Rougarou. This short story is grade level appropriate for 1st through 5th grade. The tone of the story begins with a frightening, serious tone, with added mystery. There’s a Rougarou in the Bayou! is a light-hearted and humorous story to reveal a big twist in the end.
