Abstract
This unit/assessment plan is written for 3rd grade to support Louisiana Believes Social Studies and ELA Standards. A calendar of lesson plans consists of content and assessment following the curriculum to introduce young children to the lives of Louisiana leaders Ernest J. Gaines and Clementine Hunter. Students will take a pre/post assessment of knowledge, learn rich vocabulary, and create student interpretive products. The final student products will be displayed for an art showcase to recognize student voices in creative, expressive art. The unit focus is skills, knowledge, test-taking skills, and literacy. This body of work supports the need for enrichment in prescribed curriculum. Pre/post analysis results are favorable for student growth and learning. Students were engaged and motivated to learn more.
